ComplexCon 2018

What is ComplexCon?

ComplexCon is an expertly curated convention and festival bringing the world of Complex to life. The groundbreaking festival and exhibition bring together pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports, innovation, activism, and education. This is our generation’s world fair. The minds behind Complex have come together with Cultural Director/Executive Chair Pharrell Williams and legendary artist Takashi Murakami to imagine a place where creators, curators and YOU converge to celebrate and shape our culture.

ComplexCon(Versations)

This year, ComplexCon will focus on the enlightenment and empowerment of the individual – reflecting the issues and conversations that permeate and influence culture today from entertainment to art to politics. Virgil Abloh, Ronnie Fieg, Don C., Tommy Hilfiger, Lanie Alabanza-Barcena, Jaden Smith, Hype Williams, E-40, Nas, Steve Stout, Lena Waithe and Issa Rae are all scheduled to speak at this year’s two-day event. Plus, expect to see several more specially-invited guests.

Releases

Each year, ComplexCon has exclusive releases only available to attendees. Usually, the releases are secret drops or surprises, but we managed to get some early info for this year’s event. With Virgil Abloh in attendance, hopefully, we will see another ComplexCon exclusive like last years Air Force 1 ‘07 x Off White collab. It’s possible that guests will get a chance at this version of Virgil’s Off-White x Air Force 1 collab, nicknamed the “Volt”.

N.E.R.D x NMD Hu

This is easily one of the more enjoyable shoes to look at with the bold yet simple colorway. This version of the Trail NMD Hu features a vibrant blue Primeknit upper with a solid red side-netting and pods. Like the previous N.E.R.D. x Adidas collaboration, this pair has the Bands moniker, N.E.R.D. (No One Ever Really Dies) stitched down the front with white stars, to help that blue Primeknit pop even more. As usual, the Hu sits on top of a white Boost midsole and a trail outsole.

Funko Pop! Notorious B.I.G. Crown – Restock

ToyTokyo announced they will be restocking the highly sought-after, Biggie “Crown” Pop on their Instagram. They will be setup at Pop-Life Booth J13. There are also some rumors floating around that they will release some ComplexCon exclusive Funko Pops too. Chrome Pops anyone?

Mindseeker80s x Vans

This is a confirmed release from the collaborative design team at Mindseeker80s and Vans. “Fire” and “Lightning”, respectively, are pictured across the sides. These pairs will come in specially branded boxes that match the design on the shoe. Both pairs have premium brushed suede on the Toe-Caps and uppers.

Murakami x OVO

The famed Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami, is going to release a collab with Drake’s OVO brand This will easily be one of the most sought-after capsules this year. As you can see, Murakami has placed his signature flower in place of the OVO Owl’s head. Hopefully, we will see many more pieces from this legendary collab.

Adidas Originals

“Watch out for adidas Originals at ComplexCon. Exclusive product available at drop spots all over ComplexCon. Unlock them with the ComplexCon app. Pick up your fresh sneakers at the adidas Originals lockers. No lines. Quantities are limited. Download the Complex app and be first to know when they drop.”

Based on this statement regarding ComplexCon drops, looks like adidas is taking a page out of Nike’s book and introducing a procedure similar to Nike’s SNKRS STASH. It looks like you’ll have to download the app to be alerted – but the real question is, what will you be picking up?

Nike SB x Diamond Supply Co

Diamond Supply Co. is back at it with the sequel to the OG “Diamond SB Dunk Low” from 2005. The “Black Diamond”  Dunk Low has been confirmed as a ComplexCon release, and the “White Diamond” might be a ComplexCon exclusive. These pairs are the sequel to the OG “Diamond SB” Dunk Low from 2005. Each pair features signature reptile leather and tear away  swooshes, that reveal a “Tiffany” Blue velcro Swoosh underneath. You will notice the same metallic silver finish on the Swoosh and “Tiffany” Blue on the NIKE on the heel as the OD “Diamond SB”.

Union LA x Air Jordan 1 Retro Hi OG

This is not a confirmed release but it is definitely a heavily rumored exclusive drop for ComplexCon. Union LA and Jordan Brand are reconstructing the Air Jordan 1 Hi OG. Here we have some pictures of what may well be two different models. They appear to be mash-ups of some of the most highly coveted OG colorways of any Jordan: Breds, Storm Blues and Black Toes. The original high ankle collar has been swapped out for a whole new color scheme along with orange and blue stitching to highlight where the shoes are fused together. Do you think this collaboration is up there with the Off-White Air Jordan 1 OG?
